Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. This means that the body’s immune system attacks its healthy myelin. No one is quite sure why this happens, but one theory is that the body is reacting to toxins either ingested or in the environment.

Some people have found a significant reduction of symptoms or flare-ups by eliminating potential toxins from the foods they eat and from their homes and workplace. To eliminate potential toxins, it is important to eat whole, organic foods, and foods that have not been sprayed with chemical pesticides or monosodium glutamate (MSG). Most packaged foods contain fillers, preservatives, artificial flavours, and MSG. Those trying to eliminate toxins in their diet should avoid these products.
Be sure to read labels on everything you buy. If you eat meat or dairy products, be sure those items do not contain added hormones or chemicals. If possible, find out if the fruits and vegetables you are buying have been sprayed with MSG compounds in the field. This has become common practice in many places. After purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables, be sure to wash them thoroughly before eating.
Regardless of the water filtration in your city, the water that comes out of your faucet contains toxins. Chlorine and fluoride are used by almost every city to either purify or enhance their water supply. These chemicals should be avoided by people who have sensitive stomachs. Consider drinking distilled or specially purified water.
Many researchers point to mercury as a definite toxin that exists in our environment. Look for possible sources of this toxin at home, work, and in dental work. Although removing toxins from food and the environment may not cure your MS, it may help reduce flareups or relieve symptoms.
